So, we’re running about three months behind. (If you don’t count the unfinished Italy set.) But you better not complain! We used our four day Easter holiday weekend to catch up for you ungrateful gobshites!

The holiday in January was a full three days — County Donegal is a large and picturesque region, and we saw the city of Derry, too. (more…)

Over County Cork courtesy wikimediathe past two years, we’ve visited most of the distinct regions of Ireland. Our most significant omission was part of the south-west region of Ireland, mostly County Cork. This weekend, we rectified that exception. (more…)

Photoset: Naples, October 2008

After most of a day in Pompeii, we spent the evening in Naples. We got lost several times, ate pizza on the run, and felt just a little of the nervous energy that the city is famous for.

We posted a small photoset of Naples on Flickr. Also, as a special bonus, one of the photos includes a lengthy rant about a crucial detail of Rick Steves’s travel guide for Rome! (more…)

New Photos from Italy: Pompeii, Oct 29

The Bugle’s Photochromacommunal Promulgators prepared, especially for you, a tour of the renowned archeological site of Pompeii. On October 29th, Will and Anita took a train from Rome to Naples, and from there to Pompeii.

Pompeii was a seaside town of about twenty thousand residents in 62 CE. In the preceding seven hundred years, it had seen quite a few conquerors come and go, never able to act as an independent power. It had also felt frequent rumbles from the nearby Mount Vesuvius, but nothing that threatened the town itself. It had been generations since the last eruption of smoke and ash, and that was mainly an agricultural concern.

Walks around Rome: Photos from Oct 27

We saw a lot of central Rome on October 27th, so there are two sets of photos on Flickr for that day.

During the morning, we visited the Pantheon and a variety of churches. Take a look at our photos for the morning of the 27th.

In the afternoon, we walked through Rome’s Jewish Ghetto and the Trastavere area on the other side of the Tiber River. As evening approached, we had a scare, but you’ll have to get through the entire set to see it! See our set of photos for the afternoon of the 27th.

Bit of Business: Bugle Tumblr

Hi there, Bugle readers!

For a long time, I’ve wanted an easy way to share tidbits of text, web links, and photos with you. I also didn’t want to crowd out the more substantial posts of the blog with such nonsense. I think I found the solution in a Tumblr feed, which you can now find in the sidebar to the right. (more…)

A day in Kilkenny

We visited Kilkenny, about 90 minutes from Dublin by car, on a gorgeous Saturday in September. The main attractions are the city’s High Street and the large and well-kept Kilkenny Castle.

As usual, we have a set of photos for you, along with lots of words. Here’s the link to the photoset on Flickr:

We had a great day out, and we’re delighted to share it with you! (more…)
